Hi Laura, lovely to finally meet you!
So, let’s start with what made you apply for the job at Robinsons?
Well, I’m always in the boutique shopping with my parents so I knew from the off that it was a family run boutique, and I really like that. It’s such a relaxed atmosphere, the staff are great and they’re so friendly, and of course the fashion that the boutique stocks is amazing! It’s one of the pinnacle places to work in fashion around here. To find something like this you would often have to head to London or Manchester!
When did you discover that you wanted to join the fashion industry?
Since I was a little girl! I’ve always loved and been into fashion from such a young age. I remember just looking inside my mum’s wardrobe and wanting to borrow everything!
Me too! What’s your top three key items in your wardrobe?
A black top- it’s a classic and you can wear it with anything! My True Religion Jeans, which you just can’t get me out of, and my Moschino belt that I wear with everything!
I bet you bought those from here! [We laugh- she definitely did!]
So, if you were to buy anything from the boutique, what would it be?
[Laura bursts into a fit of giggles] The most expensive thing of course!! The Ostrich Bayswater and the purse to match!
[Laura and boutique owner Wendy show me the new additions to their already amazing Mulberry collection. I’m in love and I quickly mentally store them on my Christmas wish list!]
Speaking of which, Mulberry is one of Robinsons’ best sellers and the ultimate accessory that heads the forefront of fashion. Do you have a favourite style?
Yes, it’s definitely the Bayswater. It’s the iconic image of Mulberry and it’s so versatile. You can wear it with anything.
Who are your preferred designers and why?
Definitely Moschino. It’s totally timeless and an absolute classic! I’ve grown up with it because it’s what my mum always had. I also really like True Religion.
Moschino’s my favourite too! What are your thoughts on Michael Kors, the new brand that will soon be stocked at the boutique?
I’m so excited! I love his designs and I can’t wait to have a room full of him! [Laughs] It really is going to look so good. [Here, Laura is talking about the second floor’s refurbishment that will soon be happening, which will create a whole room entirely dedicated to the popular brand]
We should call it ‘Kors Cave’! [I catch the scent of Laura’s perfume]
Your perfume smells nice! What is it?
Thanks! I’m wearing Giorgio Beverly Hills!
On the subject of beauty, do you have any interesting makeup tips?
Yes! Because I’m blonde, my eyebrows are so light and I have to draw them on. Don’t think that you have to use an eyebrow pencil because I actually use eyeshadow- it makes them look so much better!
I’ve heard that too! Would you say you are a lover of jewellery? If so, what’s your favourite piece?
I definitely am. [I stare at Laura’s wrist, adorned with beautiful bracelets and pretty rings] I would say that my favourite piece has got to be my Gucci watch.
[I check it out] It’s lovely! So, what do you wear on a day to day basis?
Well, when I’m at work, I obviously dress quite smart and I like to mix my work wardrobe up. So some days I could be wearing smart jeans and a top, whilst other days I’ll be in a dress. At home however I am a completely different person! [Laura giggles] I live on a farm so I’ll be in jeans and a polo top, and some old riding boots with no makeup on and my hair thrown up!
That sounds familiar! Do you have a favourite seasonal style?
I love winter! I absolutely love wearing my Kurt Geiger leather boots and a fur gilet. Though I prefer winter, I do love summer too. In summer I’ll wear shorts all the time, but light and loose ones not fitted.
How would you describe your style?
It’s quite simple to be honest. I like wearing classic things; you know items that are long lasting and versatile that you can wear all year round and many more years to follow. Jeans and heels are a perfect example. I wear the colour black a lot too, it always looks so classy and smart and you can never go wrong with it. It’s also a slimming colour!!
Absolutely! Do you prefer wearing colour blocks or do you sometimes don daring patterns?
Colour blocks. It’s not very often that I’m adventurous! I go for pieces that are pretty but timeless and that will last me a long time. Sometimes I wear the odd pattern here and there, like today, [She points to her colourful splashed top] but it’s not very often.
Our style is very similar! Do you have a fashion icon?
I love watching ‘Keeping up with the Kardashians’, particularly so I can keep up with all their fashion! Kim’s my favourite. I love her style. I also really like Jennifer Anniston- she’s just got that look.
Her hair is amazing! Do you have a favourite hairstyle?
I love wearing my hair down; simply because it’s easy. I can sweep it back behind my ears, wear it to the side, have it straight, curly... it’s just a classic look and quick and easy to do!
As you already know, the racing season is HUGE at Robinsons. Are you a fascinator, hatinator or a big hat kind of girl?
BIG HAT! Definitely. Everybody notices it and it always stands out. I really love hats, especially for the races.
Do you have a favourite type of heel?
I love a court, more so as I’ve gotten older. When I was younger I loved high heels but now it’s all about the courts, simply because they are just classic, elegant, womanly, and obviously comfier and easier to walk in!
I couldn’t agree more! Is there a particular trend that you love right now?
Yes, I love the pastel trend at the minute and the crisp off whites. I love a lot of easy wearing things really because my style is very simple.
Those trends have been hot in the magazines at the minute! Do you have a favourite fashion magazine?
[Laura takes no time to answer this question!] Most definitely Vogue! It’s a girl’s best friend!
Speaking of best friends, I’m off on holiday with mine next week! What’s the top fashion finds you would advise me to take?
Take a lot of dresses that look casual but which you can dress up or down. I think that those types of items are great for a holiday because it means less packing as they can work as a day-time or a night-time outfit. To dress them up, experiment with your accessories! I’d also advise taking a couple pairs of shorts but more tops to go with them, because then you can alternate and still achieve a new look each day. I also think a maxi dress is a good one to take, very pretty, fresh and light, and I would obviously advise you to take bikinis!
[I’m amazed at how similar our fashion flair is!] So, finally, if you had to briefly sum yourself up in five words, what would they be?
I’m very friendly and helpful, and I laugh at absolutely everything! What would that come under? [I write down ‘giggly’]. I’m also a massive worrier, even over the tiniest thing! I’m also quite shy at times, but then at other times I’m not... I suppose it depends what situation I’m in!
