Each season brings certain standout trends that just can’t be ignored. You see them first on the catwalks, paraded on the lithe limbs of Karlie Kloss et al, but it’s only when they finally arrive on the rails that you realise you can’t imagine your spring/summer wardrobe without them. As we move into March and the faintest glimmer of spring finally appears on the horizon, these are the trends you need to know about for SS16.
Flounces, frills, whatever you care to call them! Ruffles are big news for SS16, thanks to the trend for all thing romantic Victoriana. Pile on lashing of layers on sleeves, necklines, hems; wherever you’re keen for the attention to be drawn. Whilst acres of ruffles might not be a look for shrinking violets, it’s perfectly possible to work a subtler take on the trend. Escada added a pretty feminine edge to the ‘Nitta’ top with sweet but petite ruffles on the sleeves, whilst Moschino Boutique added a flirty frill to the hem of its tweed shift dress styles.
Pink was big news for last season and sugar sweet shades show no sign of disappearing off the fashion radar for SS16. Versace colour-blocked pink and coral, Escada brought pretty scalloped-edge shift dresses to the table, Michael Kors made it the colour of their new season styles and POLO Ralph Lauren made the shade beach ready with its bikinis and cover-ups. Pink will no longer just make the boys wink, it’ll show the girls you know your fashion stuff too.
I know, we’re sorry – florals for spring? Hardly ground breaking news, right? But as summers biggest trend, florals are one that we just can’t skirt around. From big, bold botanical blooms to ditzy prints and country-casual embroidery; florals in all forms are back for another spring/summer season. Michael Kors’ Linen Dress with delicate white floral embroidery is crying out to be worn to summer soirees, whilst a chintzy navy and white print pretties up A-line shift dresses and midi shorts in the new season collection.
Olive, khaki, emerald and every shade in between; going green has never been cooler. If you really want to work the trend, take it from head to toe, making sure you mix up the textures to add interest; think forest green chinos and khaki knits.
Previous seasons have seen trousers become more and more tailored – something had to give! SS16 sees trends sway the other way, moving from super skinny to big and baggy. Whilst we can’t condone all-out slacks that could have come straight from the Nineties, the looser fit trouser works really well when it comes to suiting. Armani Collezioni, Hugo Boss and Versace all favour looser fits for the season ahead, and our tailoring service will make sure the fit is less Madness and more Mr David Gandy.
No we didn't run out of a trend and decide to steal one from the girls and we know what you’re thinking; florals? For men? The truth is that florals come to the fore each season and it isn’t just for the ladies. Ditzy prints and Hawaiian blooms are back again and they’re parading across shirts by the likes of Eton, POLO Ralph Lauren, Versace and Hugo Boss, not to mention on the accent handkerchiefs that stuff the pockets of Jacob Cohen jeans. If you think florals are just for girls, think again!
