THE GUY'S GUIDE TO DRESSING FOR RACE SEASON

And they’re off! The race season is in full swing, so it’s time to make sure your summer suiting is on point. A day at the races is one of only a few occasions we have each year on which it’s perfectly appropriate to dress like a dandy, embracing the English gentleman look that is otherwise often relegated to the back of the wardrobe in favour of comfier, more casual attire.

Whilst the seasons change and trends come and go, a smart suit never ceases to impress. Take a step away from the paired back black styles that see you through a working week, replacing them with more summer suitable options.

The great thing about Yorkshire's own Grand St Leger, is that the dress code allows you to wear other variations on tailoring aside from traditional grey and black. Polo Ralph Lauren and Armani Collezioni are just two designers offering lighter alternatives for warmer weather. Pale blue was made for summer and the classic beige suit never gets old. Lightweight linen suits were made for summer events; skip the waistcoat, opt for a pastel or white shirt and make sure your shoes are beige or tan.

Navy suits, whilst traditional, are anything but boring when worn the right way. A favourite look with the likes of David Gandy, the navy three-piece is the style that we think every modern man must have in his wardrobe and is something of a Swiss army knife in terms of its adaptability, seeing you through all of summer’s occasion, including race day. When worn with a pink shirt and dark tie, the navy suit is a classic and if you only have one suit hanging in your wardrobe, this should be it.
