THE TOP TRENDS OF AW16

New season stock has started arriving on the rails here at Robinsons of Bawtry and it is our favourite time of the year. Whilst we’re still holding out for a summer, all of these new arrivals have helped us embrace the good old British weather and turn our attentions to the coming of autumn instead. With the new season comes new styles from our favourite designers, including Michael Kors, Escada, Moschino and Armani. Before you head to Robinsons to start working on your AW16 wardrobe, read on to find out which trends you’ll be tapping into this winter.

VELVET

Velvet is the fabric of the season. Top-to-toe or rocked in separates, the age-old fabric takes on various guises as we go forward into the AW16 season. It is a fabric which works incredibly well for winter; rich, thick and best worn in a deep jewel hue. Many associate it with the parts of the Eighties they’d rather forget, but new season velvet makes a statement with much sleeker silhouettes and even extends to accessories.

SPORTS LUXE

The trend for sportswear worn all day and night long isn’t going anywhere, but the look is more luxe than lazy for AW16. Escada was just one of the designers taking sportswear to the runway for autumn/winter but there was no sign of Lycra leggings and the like here. Instead, the designer offers a grown-up take on the look with tennis sweaters and athletic cuts in a whole host of primary colours.

BLACK

If your days and nights are spent choosing from an endless wardrobe of black attire, you’ll be thrilled to hear that you’re about to be bang on trend for AW16. Black is back in a big way for the season ahead, and channelling Wednesday Adams has never been cooler. Michael Kors was amongst the designers who sent all-black looks down the runway, keeping things fresh by mixing and matching the textures and flashing a hint of flesh when the occasion called for it.

OVERSIZED OUTWEAR

Armani, Escada and Amanda Wakeley are just some of our favourite designers when it comes to outwear but it isn’t so much who made your coat, as how you wear it, which will set you apart for AW16. The aim of the game as we move into autumn is to go big or go home; blanket coats are loved by the likes of everyone from Rihanna to Victoria Beckham, so embrace the extra warmth and opt for a size up if you’re keen to keep on trend this winter.

METALLIC

Sequins are a perennial winter favourite but they’re taking on a much more playful appeal that’ll add a little fun to cold winter nights. Subtle shimmer comes courtesy of antique gold and silver fabrics, but our favourite sequins are big, bright and bold. Think jewel-like shades of pink, green, yellow and blue, and the most important thing of all is not to save them for best; bring out your sequins for day-to-day and make the most of them.

We’re holding out for a little more summer – and maybe even some sun – but it’s never too early to start planning your winter wardrobe. Visit Robinsons of Bawtry to shop AW16 collections today.
