THE TOP MENSWEAR TRENDS OF AW16 MENS

Summer might have only just arrived, but here at Robinsons our attentions have already turned to readying our winter wardrobes. After all, the British summer never was a master of reliability, was it?

As our rails begin to fill with new season stock, we’re sharing the only menswear trends worth worrying about this winter. Which will you work into your wardrobe?

GREEN

Last season it was all about khaki but this season’s green is deeper, richer and much more majestic. Emerald green is the hottest hue of the winter and you’ll be wearing it from head to toe, though never all at once. The colour works particularly well as knitwear but start with your accessories first if you’d rather take it steady.

TARTAN

If you have visited our specialist suiting department, you’ll have noticed that we’ve welcomed some tartan styles to our rails many times in past seasons. The tartan check is a popular pattern again for AW16 and traditional colours look great come race day; perfect if you’re still working on your outfit for the forthcoming St Leger.

NEUTRALS

At the other end of the spectrum to rich emerald and bold tartan is this season’s new neutral. Black and grey have ruled the catwalks casual looks for years, but off duty dressing this winter is taking things back to beige. Light neutrals including off-white, stone and light browns look as well worn together as they do when broken up by navy and black. Just steer clear of the messy dishes at dinner!

BLACK

Okay, we admit that black is as unoriginal a trend as they come, but this season is all about wearing the hue from head to toe. The key is stay well away from leather, unless you’re keen to draw comparisons with Neo in The Matrix. Work with different textures to mix things up and keep the look fresh, and sneak in some dark charcoal greys to keep things interesting. The best thing about this look is that you’ll never need wonder if your colours are going to clash. Who doesn’t love a trend that makes it easy to get dressed in a morning?

VELVET

Don’t worry, we aren’t telling you to rock a purple velvet suit next time you’re down the pub. Velvet may be one of AW16’s top trends but we prefer it shown in a subtler manner. Evening wear is the obvious place to prove your style credentials with a velvet jacket, throwing a modern spin on your usual occasion style.
