IT’S THE LBD, BUT NOT AS YOU KNOW IT

Gone are the days of black tie meaning ball gown. We said ‘ta-ta’ to stiff and crunchy taffeta numbers circa 1997. Try-hard, die-hard fashionista looks have fallen by the wayside in favour of styles that prove you know your style stuff, without the need to prove such with OTT Swarovski sparkles and stiff formal fabrics. We want our black tie gowns to hold some drama sure, who doesn’t love an opportunity to turn up the dial to full-on fabulous, but we want to set them off with slightly undone hair or a slightly smudged kohl eye. On the contrary, we want our perfectly preened looks and coiffed locks to be offset with a dress that doesn’t take itself too seriously.

In short, modern black tie calls for classic looks with a cheeky twist, which is where this Boutique Moschino embellished black dress comes in. The designer is famed for its ability to put a playful spin on prim pieces, creating styles coveted by all ages. A floor-skimming length, plunging neckline and saucy side split are stereotypical traits of any good black tie look, but the addition of a studded faux-bow in a languid drape saves the style from looking anything even close to stuffy.
