It’s the ultimate dilemma; you’re stuck in a style rut but you need outfit inspiration that will make it easier to get dressed everyday, not just on those special occasions. When it comes to the outfits we wear day-in, day-out, it all comes down to looking good in as little time and with as little effort as possible. Whether we’re doing the school run, heading to the office or dashing here, there and everywhere running errands, all we really want is to know that we look good doing it. Enter your signature style.

From the leather jacket you throw on with everything to the boots you are rarely without or the handbag that makes any outfit feel more ‘done’; your signature style is your trademark, a go-to look that needs little to no thought but makes you feel great. Here’s how to find yours, whatever the season.

Find your inspiration

Love it or loathe it, there’s no better place to find inspiration than social media. There’s a whole world of inspiration at your fingertips – literally! – from the endless outfit library that is Pinterest to the endless feed of fashionable faces on your Instagram. Follow anyone whose style you love and set aside a couple of hours one lazy Sunday afternoon to browse their pictures. Soon enough, you’ll get an idea of their signature style, whether that may be trainers and dresses or denim worn every which way.

Make it work for you

You’re looking for your signature style, so avoid the temptation to recreate looks head-to-toe. Instead, choose elements that suit your style and that work with pieces you already have in your wardrobe. Obsessed with denim like Vogue’s Sarah Harris? Take inspiration from the fash pack with a wider turn up or raw cropped hem. Mad for the midi dresses and trainers combo sported by the street style stars but blessed with less than lengthy legs? Add a leg split to elongate those pins or compromise by raising the hemline a little.

Bring it all together

With endless snapshots of your style inspiration and an idea of how to make their looks work for you, it’s time to shop. Shopping for your signature style is a little like a jigsaw; you need to look at what you already have in place, then fill in the gaps. If you love the Parisian vibes of a T-shirt, jeans and a blazer, the chances are you’re already two-thirds there, simply requiring the blazer to bring your existing basics back to life. Scour the style of the most stylish women in the world and you’ll soon decipher the uniform behind their looks, from Emmanuel Alt’s black skinnies and blazers to Victoria Beckham’s wide-leg trousers and sweater combo, and even Iris Apfel’s OTT accessories. With the gaps in your wardrobe filled, you’ll take the hard work out of getting dressed in a morning and find yourself spending more on classic pieces and less on trend-led looks.

Accessorise all areas

Once you have got your signature style all sewn up, it’s time to inject some individuality through your accessories. Your signature look is your calling card. From a beautiful Mulberry Bayswater that never leaves your arm to stacks of delicate rings or bracelets, the accessories are what sets your style apart. A white tee and jeans looks effortless at all times, but add fine gold necklaces, the watch that means the world to you and the red sandals that add a splash of colour and you’ve got a look that screams ‘signature style’. It’s easy when you know how.

If you have walked by our window displays recently, your eye may have been caught by a dress that embodies everything we associate with the arrival of spring. The pale yellow hue and daisy decorated neckline of the Boutique Moschino Waffle Textured Dress screams springtime, pretty enough to outshine the bridesmaids at this summer’s weddings, though we couldn’t possibly condone such a thing, could we?

Florals for spring might not be ground-breaking but the way some of our favourite designers are working with them is. As charming as the Boutique Moschino Waffle Textured Dress is the Michael Kors Embroidered Linen Dress – another wedding wear wonder that will earn some serious style points this summer. The delicate white daisy embroidery on this country casual dress put another new take on the floral trend that has swept our rails for the season ahead. Daisy florals and neutral hues certainly made an impact on the catwalk of Michael Kors Ready to Wear Collections and were even worn by style queen Anna Wintour herself. This playfully short linen version pairs perfectly with strappy tan shoes for all of those summer events that are starting to fill your diary.

Get to work on your summer wardrobe and shop new season collections from Michael Kors and Boutique Moschino in store now at Robinsons.
