INTRODUCING THE SUITCASE SAVIOURS

The first bank holiday of the year has a tendency to trigger a little wanderlust in all of us. Yearning for some sun after seeing out the worst of the winter, we’re counting down the days to those late morning Mimosas and coconut scented sun creams, our suitcases full to the luggage allowance limit with pieces that show off sunkissed shoulders and tanned pins.

Spring may have only just sprung, but it is already all-out summer in store here at Robinsons, where new season arrivals have us putting holiday looks together in our heads on an hourly basis. If your first holiday of the year is just a matter of weeks away, may we suggest you let us lend a helping hand and take the pain out of packing with the help of our suitcase saviours. Consider these the classics that will take you from Cornwall to Cape Verde, Costa Rica and beyond. Simple, sophisticated and made for summer, they’re the case contenders no holiday wardrobe is quite complete without.

His shirt

The big day is just around the corner but we were coveting Megan Markle’s style long before Prince Harry put a ring on it. It’s hard to tell whether Ms Markle borrowed her oversized white shirt from Harry but she has scored some serious style mileage from its chameleon-like ability to adapt to any outfit. When it comes to holidays, a slightly oversized white shirt will lend a chic yet casual borrowed from the boy look to denim shorts and also serves as a cool cover up on beach days.

The jeans

Jeans might not be the first thing that comes to mind when you’re getting holiday ready, but it’s hard to think of anything that says summer quite like a good quality white pair. Save your leggings for the gym after one too many ice creams at the all-inclusive and wear your white jeans to the airport instead. A grey jumper will keep you cosy when the air conditioning ramps up mid-flight, while flat tan slip-on mules or espadrilles will show off that pre-flight pedicure.

The dress

There’s something about the sun that makes us reach for white, even when we’d steer well clear of its stain attracting tendencies at home. In fact, white works so well with a tan that we couldn’t consider a suitcase complete without a white dress or two. This applique Michael Kors style will look a million dollars with glowing skin, whether you’re off to the beach bar or hitting Rodeo Drive, baby.

The wedges

We know it’s finally summer when our ankle boots are replaced with wedges. If you’re reluctant to hang up your heels even on holiday, these Michael Kors wedges with luxe rivet detailing will offer the extra few inches those maxi dresses need if your height isn’t quite upto Elle Macpherson proportions.

SHUNNING THE UGLY TRAINER TREND IN MICHAEL KORS

Chunky, spongy soles are everywhere. It started when they were paraded on the pavements of Fashion Weeks around the world and their oversized 90s athleisure styling has spread from the catwalks to every street style star worth their salt.

However, while the footwear affectionately deemed the Dad trainer is without a shadow of doubt the most comfortable thing one could probably ever wear on their feet, we’re feeling a little conflicted. See, we love a trend, don’t get us wrong, but are those bubbled soles and their 90s throwback styling just a little too out there for our liking?

We’re well on-board with the trainer trend – anything that allows us to don leisure wear everywhere but the gym is just fine with us – but we’re shunning the ugly trainer trend for something a little more feminine. Enter the Michael Kors Allie and Scout trainers. They’re chunky and retro, just the right side of old skool, but those soft metallic shades and floral prints are a million miles away from what you might expect to see on your old man.

So, while the world goes wild for brasher styles, we’ll be here dipping a toe in the trend in new season Michael Kors. What about you?

THE WEDDING GUEST DRESS YOU WON'T MIND RE-WEARING

The snow may be falling but make no mistake; spring and the wedding season it brings is right around the corner. With the save the dates long since replaced by perfectly printed invitations, and the hen weekend little more than a hazy memory, all that is left to do before the big day is say yes to the dress.

When it comes to wedding guest outfits, dressing to impress is a path fraught with sartorial stumbling blocks. For starters, you’ll need a hemline that sits somewhere between sophisticated springtime soiree and deserving of the dance floor. There’s the age-old rule that says you mustn’t wear white for fear of upstaging the bride too, plus the unnerving worry that shops full of summer florals and pastel numbers might just mean you end up in the same shades as the bridesmaids. And we thought it was the bride who was supposed to suffer outfit anxiety?

Fortunately, every now and again an outfit comes along that just makes the whole thing easy. This Michael Kors floral applique number is that dress and it is brand new in store at Robinsons. Featuring enough blooms to put the flower girl in the shade and in a scarlet hue hot enough to add some sass to your step, yet feminine enough to work a charm for church weddings, it’s the all-rounder we all hope to find in the man of our dreams. In the meantime, the dress of our dreams will do.
